QSL Cards the club has used
Below is historical contact cards provided to operators who made contact with many of the clubs stations. The list is rather long and dial up users may have to wait for all of the images, but it's worth the wait.
In 1961, SONRA celebrated the 60th anniversary of Marconi's reception of the first transatlantic wireless signal with the callsign VO1MSA and issued this stylish card.
10 years later, we were issued the call VB1MSA. Here's the card
We operated VO1MSA/1 on Field Day 1971.
In 1972, There were three significant events, each using VB1AA, and each supported with its own QSL card.
1974 saw the 25th anniversary of Canada's joining with Newfoundland: another event - another callsign (VX1XXV) - another card.
Newfoundland hosted the 1977 Canada Summer Games which meant another callsign, XO1CSG, and card.
On the 75th anniversary of Marconi's first 2-way wireless contact between North America and Europe, we were issued the call VO3CC.
We were also active on the 80th anniversary of the December 12th signal. We used VO3MEA, Marconi's Eightieth Anniversary!
In 1985, we used XO1AA at our Cabot Tower site to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Canada's National Parks Service.
Cabot Tower is one of the official International Marconi Day stations. On that day, we use the callsign VO1IMD
I bet you thought we took the 90th anniversary of the December 12th signal off, didn't you?? NOPE!
This card was issued as a combination post card/QSL card and was in use during the early to mid 1980's. It shows the Tower before the renovations were done and the flag masts were replaced on the roof. Also note that the mileage and direction post is missing from the foreground-left.
This was our regular VO1AA club station card, which is one of the nicer Marconi cards I've seen in my short time in amateur radio. It shows Marconi sitting at his station on Signal Hill at around the time of the 1901 event. This card was issued during the late 1980's.
The next generation VO1AA card looked like this.
We updated our regular station cards in 1997. Here is the new VO1IMD card.
Following in the same style is the new, improved VO1AA card.
After much negotiation, we were granted the use of the call VO500JC for the 500th anniversary of John Cabot's Voyage of Discovery at our Cabot Tower station for the whole of 1997, except for International Marconi Day and December 12th. Naturally, we had to get a card done up for that historic call. Here's what it looks like.
