To start using amateur radio, you must pass an exam and become licensed by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada.
There is no requirement to take a course. You are welcome to study on your own and take the exam.
You can find study resources on our Links page. This includes ISED Canada practice exams.
RAC courses:
Radio Amateurs of Canada offers both online Basic and Advanced Qualification Amateur Radio Courses so that individuals can get started in Amateur Radio or upgrade their qualifications. The RAC Basic Qualification Amateur Radio Course is conducted with the assistance of the Annapolis Valley Amateur Radio Club (AVARC) of Nova Scotia. Both Basic and Advanced Courses are now underway. Please visit the RAC Basic and Advanced Course webpage for more information.
Once you think you can pass an exam, search for an examiner on the ISED Web site here.
